Potrero Stage: PlayGround Center for New Plays marked its 25th Anniversary in 2024. Originally launched by Thick Description’s Tony Kelly as Thick House Theater in 1999, the space was significantly renovated and renamed by new operator PlayGround in 2017, following a successful $300k capital campaign. Today, Potrero Stage is a shared community resource, providing a state-of-the-art platform for diverse artists and arts organizations to share their stories. Potrero Stage serves as home to nearly a dozen small and mid-size Bay Area theatre companies, including resident companies PlayGround and Golden Thread Productions, as well as AfroSolo, Crowded Fire, Improv Playhouse of SF, SF Recovery Theatre, the companies of PlayGround’s Innovator Incubator, and many more.
Please consider making an annual gift to Potrero Stage to ensure this shared resource continues to be available and accessible to artists and audiences for another twenty years!
Potrero Stage is operated by PlayGround, a California not-for-profit corporation (Federal ID 94-3336399). All donations made to PlayGround and Potrero Stage are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Donors of $2,500 or more can name a theatre seat. For each $2,500 gift, PlayGround will place an engraved plate with your name or the name of someone you wish to honor on the seat frame. For additional naming opportunities, please contact us directly.
