PlayGround Announces Potrero Stage Availability Thru 2022

PlayGround announces Potrero Stage’s open availability from November 29, 2021 through January 8, 2023!

While Potrero Stage has been closed due to COVID-19 since mid-March, PlayGround is making plans for a safe reopening of the theater in the Summer/Fall of 2021. This will include new procedures for artist and audience check-in under City & County of San Francisco and California guidelines (still to be finalized), as well as new resources for high-speed live streaming and digital broadcast to ensure accessibility.

Potrero Stage is PlayGround’s Center for New Plays, located in the heart of San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood. This state-of-the-art performance space features 99 seats on a raised deck, 16.6’ deck to grid, an extensive LED lighting and new digital sound package, a 20×20 ft stage to fit a large cast, as well as climate control and cushioned seats for audience comfort. Potrero Stage is a theatrical home shared by the Bay Area’s leading new play developers and producers, including PlayGround, Crowded Fire and Golden Thread, among others. The theatre is licensed at below-market rates as part of PlayGround’s Potrero Stage Presenting Program (nonprofit weekly licensing fees are $2,500; normal commercial rates are $6,000).

Formerly Thick House Theater, the performance space initially developed by Tony Kelly and Thick Description recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. In 2015, PlayGround signed the master lease for the space and took over operation. Following a successful capital campaign and renovation (including a new HVAC system!), the theater was relaunched in January 2017 under its new name, Potrero Stage. Over the past three years, Potrero Stage has hosted over 300 performances and 20,000 attendees.
