Playwrights Foundation Presents 2021 Bay Area Playwrights Festival
Playwrights Foundation presents the 2021 Bay Area Playwrights Festival July 16-25. The 44th annual Festival will premiere online with two weekends of virtual readings. Playwrights Foundation welcomes a new cohort of 5 playwrights in this year’s festival: Jaisey Bates, Miyoko Conley, Kaela Mei-Shing Garvin, Sam Hamashima, and Johnny G. Lloyd.

when we breathe by Jaisey Bates (July 25th 11:30 AM PT). History-haunted worlds and words collide in a cross-dimensional quest to survive and heal the legacies of colonization.
Human Museum by Miyoko Conley (July 18th 11:30 AM PT & July 24th 5:30 PM PT). A sci-fi drama set in a world without humans that invites us to imagine humanity’s legacy through what (and who) we leave behind.
Tiger Beat by Kaela Mei-Shing Garvin (July 17th 11:30 AM PT & July 23rd 5:30 PM PT). A play with music that explores the intersection of power, identity and artistry when coming of age in the glittery era of early 2000’s pop music.
Supposed Home by Sam Hamashima (July 18th 5:30 PM PT & July 24th 11:30 AM PT). An intergenerational time-bending tale woven through anime that explores the lasting effects of the Japanese American Concentration Camps on one family.
The Problem with Magic, Is by Johnny G. Lloyd (July 16th 5:30 PM PT & July 25th 5:30 PM PT). A play steeped in magic that explores the power of loss, gentrification and a spell gone wrong.
