SF Recovery Theatre presents “Tales from the Fentyloin”
From June 13-15, 2025, SF Recovery Theatre in collaboration with AfroSolo will presents Tales From The Fentyloin; A 911 Call. The production continues SF Recovery Theatre’s mission to bring truth to the people via their unique drama medium with a series of monologues and ensemble pieces in an answer to our community’s collective 911 call.
One of the staged pieces is The Psych, a work is loosely based on the seminal work of psychiatrists Dr. William H. Grier and Dr. Price Cobbs book, Black Rage. Released in 1968 following the assassination of Martin Luther King and subsequent riots, the book went on to become so popular it became required reading in high school and college.
SFRT takes a look at the justice and healthcare system through the eyes of not only the patient but the psychotherapists need for counsel as well, leading to a conclusion, as James Baldwin said, “It’s amazing that we are all not stark raving mad.” SFRT will also include supporting members of the Homeless Children’s Network (HCN).
AfroSolo Theatre Company will present Trouble The Water by Stan Stone and performed by veteran AfroSolo actor Barry Graves Jr. This is a one-person play exploring the issue of Black people being stopped by police. After ten years of reviewing police stops, interviewing Law Enforcement Officials, surveying the literature, interviewing individuals who have been stopped, viewing documentaries, and attending court cases, AfroSolo founder Thomas Robert Simpson has developed a game plan to help individuals survive police stops. A post-performance discussion will detail this plan.
Performances of Tales from the Fentyloin; a 911 call will take place on Friday 6/13, 6/14 at 7pm and Sunday 6/15 at 4pm at Potrero Stage (1695 18th St., SF, CA 94107). Tickets are suggested $20 Donation (no will be turned away for lack of funds) and can be purchased in advance here: Tales from the Fentyloin: A 911 Call
