Potrero Stage: PlayGround Center for New Plays is a 99-seat state-of-the-art performance space and shared community resource located at 1695 18th Street in the heart of San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood, operated by PlayGround, and serving as home to some of the Bay Area’s leading new play developers and producers, including PlayGround, Crowded Fire, Golden Thread, and Playwrights Foundation, among others. The theater is located in the Goodman2 artist cooperative and was originally developed and operated by Thick Description’s Tony Kelly as Thick House until 2017. PlayGround completed a $300,00 capital campaign and following renovations, including a new HVAC system, the theater was reopened as Potrero Stage. COVID-19 UPDATE (5/5/22): In accordance with local, state and federal guidelines and performer union protocols, Potrero Stage has resumed in-person performances. PlayGround has upgraded the HVAC and air filtration system, exceeding CDC and performer union standards (a copy of the HVAC report is available upon request). All artists and audiences must provide proof of vaccination (including booster) and wear a KN95 or higher mask, and performers are required to obtain a weekly negative test (PCR or antigen rapid test prior to the first activity each week). Capacity may be limited dependent on local level of infections and need for social distancing. Potrero Stage has been equipped with live-streaming and digital broadcast capability to increase accessibility, available for all theater renters at no additional charge.
